How LabelRoot works, start to finish

You bring the GTIN already behind your product's barcode. LabelRoot turns it into a GS1 Digital Link address, publishes a product page at that address, gives you a QR code to place in your artwork, and reports what happens after people scan it. The printed address stays fixed while approved page content and its outbound CTA remain editable.

IN SHORT

  • Start with the product identifier you already have.
  • Publish a page and get a code to hand to your designer or printer.
  • Test on the real material before artwork is locked.
  • Update the published page and CTA when product information changes.

Step by step

  1. 01
    Bring your GTIN

This is the number already encoded in your product's UPC or EAN barcode. If you sell at retail you have one. Nothing needs to be migrated and no system needs to be connected first.

  2. 02
    Choose the printed hostname

LabelRoot-hosted /01/{GTIN} addresses are available today. Custom domains are still in development, so wait for verified support before putting a brand-owned hostname into production artwork.

  3. 03
    Publish the product page

Add the information shoppers actually want: ingredients, sourcing, instructions, stockists, reorder links. Then publish. The page is live at the product's address immediately.

  4. 04
    Place and test the code

Put the code in your artwork, then scan it from a printed proof on the real substrate with several phones. This is the step that prevents an expensive reprint.

  5. 05
    Watch and adjust

Once packs are in the market, scan and CTA-click reporting shows what people use. Update and republish the managed page when the product information changes.

What you need before you start

Less than most people expect. There is no website migration, no PIM integration required to begin, and no engineering work on your side.

  • A GTIN for the product you want to start with.
  • The product information a shopper would ask about.
  • Approval of the exact LabelRoot-hosted /01/{GTIN} address.
  • No DNS access; custom domains are not available yet.

Where this fits in a packaging timeline

Before artwork is locked, confirm the exact printed address and complete a proof test. Published page content and its CTA can be revised later.

If your next artwork change is months away, that is still the right moment to test. If brand-owned DNS is mandatory, wait for that roadmap feature before printing.

Common questions

01How long does the first product take?

A LabelRoot-hosted link, page, and scannable code can exist the same day. Custom-domain setup is not available yet.

02Do I need my printer involved?

Only for placing the code in artwork and producing a proof. They do not need a LabelRoot account, and the code is a normal asset you can hand over.

03What if I do not have a GTIN?

GTINs are issued by GS1 in your country. If your product is not sold through retail and you do not have one, contact us and we will tell you honestly whether LabelRoot is a sensible fit yet.
